Abstract

Hodgkin disease is a malignant pathology of lymphatic system. It’s rare in children and less common than non Hodgkin lymphoma. We report a case of Hodgkin lymphoma which has highlighted the value of cytological and histological examination in diagnosis.

It was a 7 years-old boy with a painless cervical mass that had progressed for 2 years without treatment and increased in volume. The cervical ultrasound suspected a benign cystic mass, while the CT scan showed a tissue nodule, highly vascularized. Fine needle aspiration of this nodule was made. The cytological examination showed an inflammatory granuloma with rare atypical, binucleated cells suspect of Hodgkin lymphoma which was confirmed by histology.

In developing countries, cytology is an easier and cheaper test to perform with a quick result which helps to orient the diagnosis towards Hodgkin lymphoma? However, it is necessary to make a histological diagnostic confirmation.
